Fiberart International 2022 seeks to exhibit the best of contemporary art and invites submissions that reflect a wide range of works related to the fiber medium. The goal of the exhibition is to include innovative work rooted in traditional fiber materials, structure, processes and history, as well as art that explores unexpected relationships between fiber and other creative disciplines.
What is fiber art? According to Wikipedia, it is fine art whose material consists of natural or synthetic fiber and other components, such as fabric or yarn. Fiber art techniques include felting, weaving, quilting, knitting, crochet, rug hooking, beading, macrame, lace making, flocking, painting, dyeing, and various printing processes. The focus is on the materials, the manual labor involved in making art, and the aesthetic value of the finished product. To those we add embroidery, basketry, installations, paper art, and more.
Now that you know the basics, show us what you got. Think out of the box – we do. You still have time to work, or rework, a fiber art piece and enter it for consideration. The application deadline is August 31, 2021. For more information visit https://fiberartinternational.org/.
